Enterprise Architects operate at the intersection of business strategy, technology, governance, and delivery—making productivity essential for success.
Top 30 Enterprise Architect Productivity Hacks presents practical, proven techniques to help architects work smarter, communicate more effectively, and deliver greater value. From streamlining stakeholder engagement and accelerating decision-making to optimizing documentation, governance, and architecture modeling, these actionable hacks are designed to reduce overhead and increase impact. Whether you're a seasoned architect or building your architecture practice, this guide offers concise strategies to improve efficiency, focus on high-value activities, and drive better business outcomes.

What you will learn
This training introduces the basic structure and philosophy of Enterprise Architect and guides you through the first steps of creating models.
These fundamental concepts are independent of a specific modelling language and therefore provide the foundation for working with UML, SysML, BPMN, ArchiMate and many other modelling approaches.
Target group
This basic training is designed for anyone who would like to gain initial experience in using Enterprise Architect.
No previous Enterprise Architect experience is required.
Course structure
This basic training is offered as eLearning and can be completed independently of time and location through our learning platform.
The course combines theoretical introductions with practical exercises that help you learn the fundamental operation of Enterprise Architect.
Learning objectives
After completing the course, you will understand the basic structure of Enterprise Architect and know the most important windows of the tool. You will also be able to organize your workspace according to your individual needs.
You will understand how diagrams can provide different views of the same model for different users and stakeholders without duplicating the underlying model information.
Course contents
The basic training covers the following topics:
Workspace & Navigation
- Use workspace layouts
- Open and position windows
- Navigate the model structure
Projects & Model Structure
- Create a project
- Build a package structure
- Rebuild an existing model structure
Elements & Diagrams
- Create a diagram
- Create model elements using the Diagram Toolbox
- Create model elements in the Project Browser
- Modify model elements
Reuse & Views
- Reuse model elements in different diagrams
- Understand model vs. diagram
- Create different views of the same model
Relationships
- Create relationships with the Quicklinker
- Delete relationships
- Hide relationships in a diagram
- Recover hidden relationships
Working with Model Content
- Delete elements from a diagram
- Delete elements from the model
- Understand the difference between both operations
A central concept: Model ≠ Diagram
One of the most important concepts you will learn is the difference between the model and its diagrams. A diagram is a view on model information — not the model itself.
This allows the same model elements to be reused in several diagrams and presented differently depending on the purpose, stakeholder or question being addressed.
Prerequisites
A basic understanding of software or systems is helpful, but is not a prerequisite for participating in this course.
Technical requirements
Information about hardware, software, supported Enterprise Architect versions, licenses and the Moodle learning platform is available on our technical requirements page.

This course is designed to provide you with a comprehensive introduction to MDG Technologies and how they can be used to extend and customize Sparx Systems Enterprise Architect.
MDG Technologies are a powerful feature of Enterprise Architect that allow you to define your own modeling notations, meta-models, and code generation templates. With MDG Technologies, you can tailor Enterprise Architect to your specific modeling needs, making it a more effective and efficient tool for your organization.
In this course, we will start by introducing the concept of MDG Technologies and explaining why they are useful. We will then guide you through the process of creating your own MDG Technology, step-by-step. You will learn how to define your own modeling notations, including custom diagrams and symbols. We will also show you how to extend the meta-model of Enterprise Architect to support your specific modeling needs.
By the end of this course, you will have a solid knowledge about MDG Technologies an how to create deploy and use them.
